May 27, 2009 - Tulip Festival

This year (2009) is the second year when Russia represents itself on Ottawa Tulip Festival. And this year Russophiles Circle participated in the Festival for the first time and represented Russian Club and Russian Theatre "Once Upon a Kingdom" ("V Nekotorom Tzarstve")!

We were hosting a section in Russian Pavilion (in Lansdowne Park) from May 1 till May 12. During these days, members of our club gave presentations and interviews about Club's events and activities, performed Russian folk dances and Russian songs, provided entertainment for children and participated in Victory Day concert on May 9th.

Thank you everyone who volunteered for this event and those who visited the Tulip Festival!

May 26, 2009 - End of the year

The 2008-2009 academic year is over and we are stopping the regular meetings of our club until the next Fall. I want to thank everyone who was coming to our teas and movie nights regularly or occasionally. Keep it up because it is great pleasure to see you all every Wednesday and Friday! During the summer our Club will be hosting occasional events, so check your e-mails and the Website for more information.

To sum up or achievements, I think this year went very well and many wonderful events were happening during this time. During this year we produced a play for the young audience and laid a foundation for the fist Russian theatre in Ottawa; we had a Pel'meni Night that brought more than hundred of our members together in a great celebration; we celebrated Old New Year and Maslenitza which are the most fascinating Russian traditional holidays; we revived a part of an Old Russian folk culture through these events; we participated in International Week and represented Russia on campus for the first time in the history of the club; we had lots of wonderful evenings, drinking teas on Wednesdays (and this year we had special topics and presentations for Teas, such as Night of Fortune-telling and Mafia game); and we watched lots of amazing movies from the classical Russian collection. Also, just as a fact, about one hundred new members joined our club.

And what I think is the most important, this year the club became not just a formal organization, now it is a circle of close friends and I believe it is the most beautiful achievement. I am happy that people come to the club and stay with us, and become our friends. We want to keep developing the club and make it better, bigger, and more interesting. We learn, we improve, and new creative ideas are being born every day.

So again, thank you for a fantastic year and have a wonderful summer!
